Hunting for the Truth

Critical Race Theory has been a hot topic both in the news and in our surrounding school districts.

Parents are a child’s most prominent advocate. So I understand why parents will move mountains to ensure their child is learning in a safe environment. There are groups organized by mothers in the Lansing area to ensure the Critical Race Theory is not taught in public schools. In the past, I have removed my child from situations that I did not think benefited their mental health. Should I be concerned, now? There seems to be an awful lot of parents upset, and I felt like my head has been in the sand, not aware of what is happening around me. I had never even heard of Critical Race Theory.

I’ve started a journey to uncover what this theory is and why parents speak at board meetings across the nation against it.

So, What exactly is Critical Race Theory? I’m still learning and absorbing the information.

There is a lot of noise around us (social media, mainstream news sources, etc.) that prevents us from hearing the truth.  I know many parents out there, like myself, trying to find sources that are not Fox News or CNN. I’ve provided a few websites and articles that I’ve found helpful in my journey of understanding CRT. I’m hoping this will help other parents, like me, who are just trying to find the truth.

At the end of the day, I want my boys to become strong men who aren’t afraid to hunt for the truth, love others, not because of their skin color, but because of their heart, and who will be proud of who they are as a person. As a mother, I will always tell them the truth, advocate for the truth, and provide them with  all the tools to become those men.

I am not a perfect parent or the perfect person. I am just trying to understand the world around me.
